Morrison Construction, part of the Galliford Try group, has won two contracts from the Environment Agency.
The larger job is to carry out the second phase of flood alleviation works on the River Douglas in Wigan, Greater Manchester, having been contractor for the first phase. Worth £4.3m, new developments will include a structure across the River Douglas, alterations to the highway and Haigh Hall bridge and minor drainage works to Leyland bridge.
A further £3m of new business encompasses improvements at the Thames Barrier in London. Work will see the replacement of the existing personnel lifts in the piers at the Thames and Barking Barriers, replacement of the UPS control system at the Thames Barrier and installation of new heating water and ventilation systems.
