Andy Sloan, managing director of Cowi in the UK and Ireland, has been made executive vice president to lead Cowi’s newly formed UK and international division.

Cowi said that Sloan’s appointment underscored the strategic importance of the UK, Ireland, and other international markets to the company, along with Germany, Iceland, Oman, Singapore, and South Korea.

As executive vice president, Sloan will join the company’s executive leadership team and oversee delivery and development across multiple regions with a focus on infrastructure and the green energy transition.

An engineering geologist by training, Sloan studied at the Universities of Edinburgh and Leeds and is a chartered engineer as well as a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He is also a visiting professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Strathclyde University. His specialist expertise lies in underground space development, having worked on tunnels and caverns for infrastructure, energy and science projects worldwide, including the planned Lower Thames Crossing.

“This is an exciting time for Cowi,” said Sloan. “We are seeing strong momentum across our markets, from renewable energy and transportation to advanced infrastructure. I look forward to working with colleagues across geographies to harness our collective strengths and deliver innovative, sustainable solutions.”
