The contracting team was selected for the project. At that time the value of the contract was given as 拢200m. The overall scheme involves the construction of a two-storey sequential batch reactor plant in the disused Wellington Dock, as well as upgrades to the existing works in the adjacent Sandon Dock to the north of Liverpool city centre.
The existing works at Sandon Dock will be extended into the redundant Wellington Dock, resulting in a plant able to cope with 11,000 litres of waste a second.
The joint venture was appointed to work on United Utilities鈥� AMP5 schemes in April 2010.
