Lagan negotiated a price of £18m for the job, which the client originally estimated at £15m.
It is expected that City Quays 2, on completion in early 2017, will help address the current lack of Grade A office space in Belfast. The building, designed by Grimshaw Architects, will also house waterfront retail space on the ground floor.
Belfast Harbour chairman David Dobbin said: “Earlier this year we completed City Quays 1, of which 85% is currently or soon to be occupied. This demonstrates that there is a high demand for office space of this quality and specification within Belfast. Belfast Harbour is delighted to appoint a local contractor to build what we expect to be an impressive addition to the waterfront, and we are pleased with how quickly the development is progressing overall.â€
Lagan Construction Group chief executive Colin Loughran, CEO of, said: “We have a fully committed team to ensure the contract is delivered with the highest safety standards, and within programme and cost requirements.â€
Other projects within Belfast Harbour’s City Quays development include a four-star hotel and a 900-space multi-storey car park, both of which are expected to be completed in 2017.
