The two-storey building is scheduled to open in September 2013 and was procured via the iESE (Improvement and Efficiency South East) framework.
The building has been designed with flexible workshops and teaching spaces, so that it can be adapted to changing future needs. It will showcase renewable technologies and is targeting a BREEAM Excellent rating.
Sustainable features include a small wind turbine, photo voltaic cells (solar panels), biomass heating, a geothermal heat pump, rainwater harvesting and the maximisation of natural daylight.
Morgan Sindall area director David Sershall described it as a ‘landmark building’. He said: “The field of sustainable technology is a rapidly growing sector and the Morgan Sindall team is looking forward to bringing their significant experience and expertise in this area to bear on this exciting project.â€
The project team includes architect HNW, quantity surveyor and project manager Davis Langdon, consulting engineers Campbell Reith and M&E consultant Hilson Moran.
