Julie Crawford joins Galliford Try from HS2 Ltd, and has previously held senior roles at National Highways when it was called Highways England.
As National Highways director, she will be one of three divisional heads within Galliford Try Highways, alongside local authorities director Elizabeth Bell and major projects director Ross Glendinning.
