Demolition, including a specialist archaeological assessment, is expected to take five weeks. It will start in mid- March, once all the asbestos has been removed from the court building. The new development will provide an entertainment and leisure venue for Cheshire West & Chester Council.
Subject to planning permission, there will be a swimming pool, gym and a multi-purpose theatre. It will also feature a conference venue, community spaces and a café and bar. The project is being funded by the council, in partnership with the Weaver Valley Partnership Board, and managed by its capital delivery team.
Wates Construction director Tony Shenton says: “The work at Northwich Memorial Court is rogressing well and we have an excellent site team in place preparing for the start of construction later this year. Throughout the works we intend to keep close consultation with the local community to ensure that the new facility becomes a true asset to the town.â€
