Wates Construction has been awarded a 拢4.9m contract for new build and extension work at Castleton Primary School, doubling its capacity and a 拢4.5m contract to extend and refurbish Gledhow Primary School, adding 50% to its capacity.
Earthworks have now started at Castleton but the Geldhow expansion in 聽Lidgett Lane has proved controversial locally, with 380 objections submitted to plans for the school to build on a neighbouring field. The school and the city council are now battling a village green application lodged by Friends of Gledhow Field.
